Peanut, let's say you have an exclusive contract to test

OK ,that analogy doesn't work.

Peanut , let's say that you have an exclusive contract to..No that one doesn't work either. How about I just come out and say it. If every one passed on the first try the Contracted Course Director wouldn't get that second or third fee. Mind you, the AFF /JM candidates can't take this curse from anybody else. And if you're from a Dz which the contractor has a personal or political agenda against, what are your chances of passing do you think? And then where can that DZ get rated AFF J/Ms to teach their students? I seem to remember some rumors about problems between a DZO in Ohio and a couple of the oligarchs at USPA a while back. All I can go on is hearsay as the official investigators' report was destroyed lest the rank and file membership get a hold of the findings and cry 'Throw the Bums Out'.

Yeah, the AFF program is a disgraceful mess. Making the curse easier to pass isn't the answer. Maybe written qualifications and procedures to become a 'Course Director' instead of the back room 'How much you got?$?' might be a start to fixin' the problems.

With the upcoming elections, Now's our chance. Let's take advantage of it!

SERIOUS QUESTION,, i know thats hard from me,, but chit,, sooner or later i have to ask these things.

Well, i was counting up the time from the logbooks, and was surprised that after ONLY 150 jumps, i now have over the 6 hour minimum for the AFF course thang.

I have heard mixed stories about this course starting with the negative 50% failure rate. First, (mho) I am of course skeptical of a course failure rate that is that high when i see such a need for AFF jm's. ON EVERY DROP ZONE! ! !

NOT THAT I DISAGREE if its necessary. For example, at the end of Vietnam, there was no longer a need for bullet bait. SO, they washed out half of my platton in basic training.. AND it was good for the army, hehehe. And at Jump school,, they washed out another 40% . Now, what i'm interested in, is what in the sam hill is flunking these people?

Is this like Airborne school where you got a lot of non athletes entering who join thinking they can learn to do 7 chin ups? A nd run 6miles every morning before 5 am.

MY QUESTION: i would like to know what the average number of jumps is for someone who pases and the average for the ones that fail..

AND,, what is causing the failure rate?

AND are there camps to prepare one for such a Quest?

any comments from the experts would be greatly appreciated for all of us 150 jump idiots out here. Any of you older experienced types want to comment?

Peanut find an AFF examiner and do a practice dive and find out for yourself why the failure rate is so high. I found just the practice jump was a real test of any ability that I have........and I have 900+ jumps so that really doesn't matter GoodLuck & BlueSkies B.U.R.G.

thanks buddy.

i have watched a few exits, and chit,, they look easy as LLLLL. I watched David down at the gold coast this weekend,, and it looked like a pice of cake for both JM's..

so what exactly is the problem with failure rate?

First off because you only have 150 jumps you have no business being a aff jump master. And your lack of understanding about the skills differance between someone with only 150 jumps and someone with 500 or 1000 proves my point. The aff jm course dosent test your ability to handle the average aff jump it tests your ability to handle one that goes all to hell times 10. If you cant belly fly your ass off and do the impossible learn to then try for the rateing. As far as how much better can jump numbers make you. That should be obvious but since its not for you. Compare your skills to those of any one on Airspeed. There flying ability is the differance between 150 jumps and thousands. Your not going to be competition at nationals with 150 jumps. But in addition to that currancy plays a big part to. I know 100 jump people who are better skydivers than 500 jump peps cause they have done there 100 in 3 months and the 500 guy has been jumping 8 years. Other than that do as previously suggested find a aff jm or a ie and take a test jump to see where your skills are. Blue Skies

I think the aff should be as hard or harder than it is. I learn over near ft bragg. some of the hardest classes there. BUt its worth it.. I'd rather have safer divers out there...
