Ultralight Pilot Thumps Tower, Makes Run For It
Usually, pilots who tangle with towers don't live to tell about it. But there's an ultralight pilot somewhere in the Midwest who has a doozy of a hangar tale. The pilot, according to the (Lafayette, In.) Journal and Courier, hit a 150-foot personal TV tower near West Point, Ind., last week after buzzing some of his friends. About 45 feet of the tower was sheared off including the Christmas tree star on the top, and three steel cables holding the tower in place were cut. Part of the tower fell onto the house below. Authorities haven't been able to find out who pegged the tower, but do have some clues: The pilot dropped a shoe, his compass, his sunglasses and a beer (Coors Light) in the impact.
