Please go to www.whig.com and read the article about the Quincy Municipal Airport's desire to upgrade their airport certification for service by Air Wisconsin Dornier328 aircraft to Chicago O'Hare after October 1'st.

The FAA is going to require that they take out our gravel roads on the airport etc etc. As I recall these were put in one year because of the horrible drainage problems at the convention site. Something Airport Manager Hanna has failed to address in as many years as we've been coming there.

The Crash Fire and Rescue response needs to be upgraded to as evidenced by that runway disaster between the corporate kingair and United Express BE-1900 aircraft a couple years back. There were NO ARFF personnel at the airport at the time of the accident and the response from town was slow. The personnel that were there did not know how to open a jammed door on the United Express aircraft and were not trained in how to deal with this emergency. Makes you wonder how they could deal with a 32 passenger air carrier aircraft or one of our skydiving aircraft.

One good benefit is that the DO-328 aircraft is a large and fast turboprop and will make it easier for jumpers to get from O'Hare to Quincy. with our gear etc.

I'm sure this air service thing will be more cannon fodder for not having us in Quincy but let me say this Oshkosh has service from the same airline and aircraft during the EAA convention and at one time had DC-9 service from North Central and later Republic airlines during the EAA convention so I think we can co-exist with out tents, some permanent roads and our 5.2 million dollars we bring in to the local economy every year.

Please go to the WFFC mesage board page and write your thoughts. Let the Mayor know how much you like coming to Quincy every year and how much money you spend here every year etc. Offer some constructive ideas on how the convention site can be improved etc.

Just some thoughts

Chris

Please get your facts straight. Yes, there was a disaster a couple of years ago. Our airport personnel are being trained in emergency procedures. ALSO- while you are here for your 'convention,' Quincy Fire Department is on-site manning crash equipment during air op hours. This service is supported by Don Kirlin, as the firefighters are brought in on their normal off-duty time, and are paid extra for staffing the firehouse by Kirlin.

What facts are you indicating that Chris is incorrect on?

You agreed about the disaster a couple of years ago. We all know about that.

You then indicate that 'Our' personnel are being trained in emergency procedures. Since you didn't indentify yourself I'll just have to 'assume' your refering to the Quincy airport personnel. We're they trained for this type of emergency at the time of the incident? If not then Chris' facts are correct.

The fact that the Quincy Fire Department is at the airport during the WFFC has no bearing on the aformentioned incident, and Chris was wondering how the AIRPORT personnel would handle those other types of incidents.

Lastly, if your going to post a message telling someone that their facts are incorrect, you should at least identify yourself.

All I was wondering about how Airport personnel (ARRF) at Quincy could deal with a skydiver aircraft emergency. In my conversation last week with Mark Hanna the Airport Manager this was clarified. Since you are going to have better air service in Quincy with larger passenger planes You are upgrading from ARRF index limited to ARRF index A and can be in ARFF index B status with 48 Hrs notice. Not taking away from the great job you ARRF folks are trained to do, the incident at Quincy a couple of years ago revealed some difficiencies that have since been corrected. I hope this clarifies things as I did not want to step on any toes.
