Here's a question for the group...
If you have a CYPRES, do you need your RSL?

No! It's a serious question. I am geting a rig and I am leaning toward having the RSL disconnected. I have a Cypres. So, if I somehow (doubt it) get all brainlocked after cutting away, my AAD will save me, right? So, what do I need that extra piece of gear for? It seems to me that it will be more likely to cause me grief having it connected.
The Cypres is made to release my reserve for me if I need it. Why do I need the RSL?
What say you?

It's up to you if you want either, neither or both.
Personally, yes, I do have a CYPRESS and an RSL.
The CYPRESS is supposed to be used as a last resort - You really want to do all you can not to have the CYPRESS fire.
Ideally, if you mal. you should be well enough trained to be able to cut away and then pull your reserve without a CYPRESS or an RSL.....
But, if you are a low time jumper and you have to cut away and haven't had a malfunction before, that RSL is going to have that reserve right out for you.
CYPRESS should be used only under extreme circumstances like if you get knocked out during the jump or if you majorly screw up and lose altitude awareness. I wouldn't count on it as a back-up device for a cut away.

I have had one on my previous rig. Here's a pop quiz - I doubt I can answer it all.
Can you name every situation where you need to disconnect your RSL?

I guess what you didn't get from my post was that I *am* figuring it out for myself sherlock. Reading through your confrontational aggressive response (bet you do hook turns and have a large brow) you are in favor of RSLs. Good! Care to elaborate *why* you are in favor of them?

Here's a question for the group... If you have a CYPRES, do you need your RSL? ........................................... Or: if you have an RSL, do you need a cypres?
The answer is; You don't (or at least shouldn't) 'need' either. These two devices are designed to do two very different jobs. Having one does not make the other redundant.
